To ALL voters of the Southern Section of the Appalachian Region

I am seeking the position of Section Chief of the Southern Section in this coming election.

I have been the Regional S&T Advisor and an Eastern Division Certified Alpine Patroller for the last 7 years.   This position has allowed me to travel to all patrols not only in the section but in the Western App Region.   It has also given me exposure to other regions and patrols in the Eastern Division.   It has allowed me to develop relationships with the Patrols, Patrol Leaders, Regional Advisors, Regional Leaders, and Eastern Divisional Leaders and Advisors.   This experience has shown me that all the patrols in NSP are different in some aspect but the heart of the entire system is the individual patrollers.  It has given me the opportunity to play with Nordic as well as Alpine, Telemark, and Boarder patrollers.

In the recent past, the NSP system has evolved to allow the individual patroller to have more say in the NSP system.   It has brought such matters as voting for the Section Chief, Regional Director, and NSP Board of Directors to the hands on the individual patroller.   Before this recent change these positions were decided at the Patrol Director level or above.

There are many issues and concerns facing the future of the ski patrolling.   The main responsibility of the Section Chief is to work with patrollers in the section to forward their concerns to the Region, Division, and National.   At times the individual patroller needs a voice outside of their individual patrol or needs a person to stand up for them to help solve particular problems or concerns.   Sometimes the patroller only needs someone to vent their frustrations or concerns that can be trusted.   These are the real responsibilities of any position in the system and in this case the Section Chief Position.

My main reason for considering the section chief position was to gain experience to later run for Regional Director.  At the time of the nominations for the Southern Section Chief position, the only name in the hat was Bryant Hall.  I put my name in so that the voting system can work.   Why vote if there is only one person running?   Personally, I feel that that Bryant is a very good candidate for this position, could do an extremely good job and is a valuable asset to the Region.   I plan to continue to be the Regional S&T Advisor if voted into the Section Chief position or not and will be around to interface with patrollers and my phone and email are always available.

Thanks for the consideration – IV
