Regional Director Election 2008

Western Appalachian Region 

Candidate: Steve Schopfer 

     As many of you know, my home area is the Ski Sawmill Ski Patrol.  A small, family-oriented area that handles about 100 accidents/yr.  Sawmill is about 1 hour South of Denton Hill.  Denton Hill is about 15 minutes from the New York State border. 

                    

     As I look over my activities for the past 3 years, I don’t have to tell you that things have been very active.  The first year was basically spent re-organizing the Eastern Division and the second year was spent re-organizing the NSP at the highest level.  Getting the direction of a “member driven organization” back into the hands of the members has been a long, and many times frustrating battle. It tears me up inside that we had to wind up going to court over these important issues, but I am glad that I was able to represent you and be a part of the process.  I want to thank you all for your support of the organization and the Region.

           

     Like my predecessor, I have tried to keep everyone informed of the important activities and at the same time guide and move the Region forward in Program Delivery.  I am truly blessed with three (3) Section Chiefs and many, many Program Advisors that are motivated and really want to see our Region excel.  In OEC, Senior EMM, and S&T, we have been working with other Regions (Western New York and Eastern PA) to provide better and more comprehensive programs.  Alumni, Awards, MTR, Nordic, and others have been busy with their respective areas. 

            

      My intent is to serve out the six years term as the Western Appalachian Region Director to assure that our Region is well represented on the Eastern Division Board of Directors.  In doing so, I hope to continue and advance the many programs that we are have worked so hard to ensure quality and the continuation of these programs.   

     Further, it is my intention to promote the recruitment and retention of NSP personnel through the Marketing and Public Relations committees that I either chair or serve on at the Division level.
