Events PageThe Events page was updated on 28 August 2010 with correction of a ski and toboggan event date and addition of a tradeshow. Please check back for additional Region events as they are posted. Check the Events page for the most current schedule of meetings, refreshers, clinics, courses, and other events. We will be happy to add ski swaps, fund raisers, and other patrol events you want publicized. Just send an e-mail with date, times, and point of contact (including e-mail address, plus telephone number if the individual wants the number posted). Revised Region BylawsThe Region is in the process of revising our By-Laws. The changes from our 2008 By-Laws include the following revisions:
The proposed new bylaws are posted here. Your Patrol Director or Patrol Representative, your Section Chief, and the Region advisors will vote to confirm these changes in September. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to approach these individuals with your concerns. Section Chief CandidatesMichelle Koons is running unopposed for Eastern Section Chief. Bryant Hall and Bill Smith IV are going for the Southern Section Chief slot. Their platforms and patrol histories are linked below: New Photo GalleryWe will now post photos of awards and other region events on a separate Photo Gallery page. The page was created and last updated on 30 June 2010 with posting of an Emergency Management Module Recertification. WARNING: because of the large number of images, this page takes a long time to load over a dial-up or other slow connection. Section Chief Elections and Call for CandidatesThe positions of Southern Section Chief and Eastern Section Chief of the Western Appalachian Region are up for election this fall. All active National Ski Patrol (NSP) members of each applicable Section are eligible to vote for the respective positions. Eastern Section includes Blue Knob, Mount Pleasant, Sawmill and Tussey Mountain. Southern Section includes Canaan Valley, Hidden Valley, Laurel Highlands Nordic, and Wisp. Our Regional By-Laws state...."There shall be three (3) Section Chiefs, who shall be elected for a two-year term in alternate years. The Section Chiefs may serve no more than three (3) consecutive 2 year terms. The Section Chiefs shall perform such duties as shall be given by the Region Director. The Section Chiefs shall have a vote in all Region and Division matters as provided by the Regional By-laws and the Division By-laws. The Section Chiefs shall hold no other elective office in NSP...The Section Chiefs will be elected by the current voting members in each of their respective Sections. This election process will be overseen by the Region Election Committee Chairman in accord with Section 3.5." Deadline for nominations is 1 July. Platforms provided by the candidates will be posted on the region's web presentation at www.patrol.org/war/news by 15 August. You will have the opportunity to vote for the Section Chief position at your fall refresher. Deadline for voting is 1 November, the date of the last refresher in the region.
