Six intrepid Alpine patrollers from across the region participated in the 1st annual Nordic Enhancement Clinic for Alpine Patrollers, held on 30 January 2011 in the Forbes State Forest. In order to gain insight into the world of their Nordic counterparts, attendees shadowed their hosts for a full day on the trail in spectacular powder conditions. In addition to receiving some guidance on how to bring their Nordic skiing skills to the next level, the patrollers participated in exercises for improvising emergency toboggans, splints, and shelters in remote backcountry situations.
Nordic training clinics are open to all. Please contact Region Nordic Advisor Jerry Timcik (P) for information on upcoming events.

Guy Lombardo (P) contributed these photos.
Two region members were honored at the 8 May 2010 region officers meeting at Seven Springs.
Steve Schopfer was presented a certificate of appreciation for his 6 years of hard work and service as regional director and division board member. The award was presented by Marty Silverman, new regional director, on behalf of all the patrollers of the Western Appalachian Region.
Guy Lombardo humbly accepted the section chief award for the nth time. Marty Silverman, new regional director, announced (tongue in cheek) that the award will be retired until Guy retires.
Seven Springs Patrol Director Dick Barron presents the "Outstanding Patroller of the Year Award " to Gregg Goldstrohm at the annual patrol banquet on 8 May 2010.
A Meritorious Service Award was awarded to Dave Kuckenbrod in recognition of 25 years of dedicated service to the Hidden Valley Ski Patrol. Dave retired as Patrol Director this past winter. The award was presented by Mike Wallace, new Patrol Director of the Hidden Valley Ski Patrol, at the patrol end-of-season picnic on Saturday, 10 April 2010.

A funny story goes with this picture we took this weekend to honor NSP's 70th. While patrolling with a colleague during the Christmas vacation a year ago, a couple of young girls came up to us and asked us if we were the "Plus Guys." They thought our white crosses were plus signs. Since then, we are now referred to as the "Plus Guys." In honor of NSP's 70th, we decided to do a little NSP math using "Plus Guys."
Enjoy the pic- feel free to pass it along, publish it, or just laugh.
